SOWETO, CONSTITUTION HILL AND APARTHEID MUSEUM: (Half day ± 8hrs )
Hours allocated include travelling time.
We combine these three tours in one day to get a full History of Johannesburg and South Africa, however because of tight schedule we visit the most important Historical sites.
We do the tour of Constitution Hill in Johannesburg, the sight of the Notorious Old Fort Prison complex, commonly known as NUMBER FOUR, where thousands of ordinary criminals and Political Prisoners were brutally punished before the dawn of Democracy in 1994. Most of South Africa's leading Political activists, including Mahatma Ghandi and Nelson Mandela were detained here. Nelson Mandela was imprisoned here before his Rivonia Trial in 1964. Constitution Hill is the new home of the Constitutional Court.
The old Awaiting Trial building has been transformed into the Constitutional Court of South Africa, a symbol of freedom, which works to protect the rights of the entire nation's people.
The court also houses an art gallery with a collection of more than 200 contemporary artworks chosen by Constitutional Court Judge Albie Sachs, including works by Gerard Sekoto, William Kentridge, and Cecil Skotnes. At Apartheid museum you do the tour of a series of 22 individual exhibitions, a dramatic emotional journey of racial discrimination.
For anyone wanting to understand and experience what Apartheid South Africa was really like, a visit to Apartheid museum is fundamental.
The museum is a beacon of hope showing the world how South Africa is coming to terms with its oppressive past and working towards a future that all South Africans can call their own.
Nelson Mandela's exhibition is currently on at the Apartheid Museum. Mandela's exhibition examines his undoubted Strengths and Greatness, but does not shy away from his Weaknesses too.
Narratives are presented through dramatically visual wall display, supported by film displays of original artefacts.
A tour to the apartheid museum is a must for any visitor, who wants to understand the history of Apartheid. In Soweto the guided tour will take you to Hector Pieterson Museum to learn more about Soweto Student Uprisings. The tour proceed to Vilakazi Steet.
